The Munchy Branch Pathway Phase II

(Please read, detours will effect your comings and goings in and out of Fieldwood)

Hi Neighbors, a member of the HOA board received the following from a contact in neighboring Breakwater Estates (BWE) in regards to the Munchy Branch Road Bike Trail Project.  This project will definitely affect our comings and goings in the future. This may cause some inconvenience, but at least we received advanced notice and can prepare for it. Below are some quotes from DelDOT communications.

The Munchy Branch Pathway Phase II –

Bike Trail Expansion to begin on 3/1/25 – this is an approximate date but it should be late winter/early spring 2025.

Duration of the construction – 95 calendar days.

The contractor will work 24/7 for the first 60 calendar days (duration of the detour).

After the detour is lifted, the remaining construction (about 25 days) will be done during normal work hours (no night work for the last 25 days).

Advanced warning signs will go up 10 days before the contractor is scheduled to begin construction.

Beyond that, DelDOT has a notification service where you can sign up and choose what notifications to receive. The address can be found here: Delaware Notification Services (finalsiteconnect.com).

From a note sent to BWE last week:

  • The preconstruction meeting for Munchy Branch Road Pathway Phase II was held this morning.
  • The contractor was issued a Notice to Proceed as of 2/14/25, which makes the first day of work 2/24/25.
  • There is a 10-day waiting period starting 2/14/25 when the advanced warning signs go up, notifying users of the upcoming construction.
  • There are no other updates at this time.

How this affects residents of Fieldwood:

The southbound lane of Munchy Branch Rd. will be closed for up to 60 days and the northbound lane will be one-way in the southbound direction. In other words, you will not be able to turn right out of FIELDWOOD onto Munchy Branch Rd. during this time. If residents wish to go NORTH on Rt. 1, say to Lowe’s you will have to turn LEFT out of FIELDWOOD to the light at the corner of Munchy Branch ROAD and ROUTE 1.  Same as you would to go toward Walgreen’s and the Giant, since the traffic on Munchy Branch Rd. will be one-way southbound. Coming back from those stores, however, we will all have to take Rt. 1 up to the Wawa, then turn right onto Wolfe Neck Rd to return to FIELDWOOD.

Keep this in mind and notify anyone driving to your home that they need to take Route 1 NORTH to Wolfneck Rd.  They cannot get to Fieldwood from Route 1 and Munchy Branch Rd until the detour is lifted.

Currently nothing is posted on Phase II, we will post when it becomes available.
